1512/2009 HOE CAN WE FORGET 1984

One of the most horrific attack on the Sikhs was only 29 years ago. When the Temple of God, Sri Harmandar Sahib was attacked and the Seat of Temporal Authority, Akaal Takhat was demolished. Sikhs will never be able to forget how the Indian Government led by Indira Gandhi laid siege to the most Famous of Sikh Temples. In a feeble attempt to wipe out the Sikh Nation with the excuse to liquidise Militants and Terrorists, Indira Gandhi ordered not the state police, but the countries army, to storm the Golden Temple Complex and other Sikh shrines all over India.

There are many questions that remain unanswered as to why the Indian Government attacked a small minority of their own citizens. The peace keeping Sikhs never stepped out of line and even in 1947 helped in the mighty battle when India was created. What makes it worse is that not a single MP has once apologised and made a statement to say that what happened was wrong and was not necessary. As Sikhs we feel cheated, we demand justice and we demand the Very basic Human Rights.

There are some individuals that say the reason behind the attack was because some terrorists were demanding Khalistan, a separate Sikh state. This is a complete lie and a poor attempt to excuse the atrocities. Not once did any Sikh leader demand Khalistan, they simply stated that if Khalistan was given to us we would take it. However, Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale did state that the moment the Indian Army enters the Golden Temple Complex, that will lay the foundation stone for Khalistan.

After the attack Indira Gandhi tried to win back the Sikh Nation and offered to rebuild the desecrated Akaal Takhat. The Sikhs have never been bought and never will be, every time we have been attacked we always restore our Gurdwara's and shrines within the Panth. The Kaar Seva was started and approximately 12 years after the attack the Akaal Takhat was fully restored.

On October 31st of 1984, Indira Gandhi was preparing to address the Nation. On her way through her garden she was killed by her two bodyguards, Bhai Beant Singh Ji and Bhai Satwant Singh Ji, they were seeking justice after she attacked the most sacred of places. After this event Delhi went haywire. Sikhs were killed publicly, innocent women and children were gang raped, beaten, burnt alive and killed then left to rot. Dogs would eat the remains of the Sikh bodies. Where were the police whilst all this was happening?? The police were busy...busy giving Hindu gangs the addresses of Sikh families, pointing out the Sikh shops and assisting the mobs as they dragged Sikh taxi drivers from their vehicles poured kerosene over their bodies, ripped off their sacred Turbans and used them to tie their hands behind their backs and then set them alight.

14/12/2009 The Five Takhts

'Takht' which literally means a throne or seat of authority is a result of historical growth of Sikhism. There are five Takhats. The first and the most important one was established by Guru Hargobind in 1609. It is called 'Akal Takht' and is situated just opposite the gate of Harmandar Sahib - The Golden Temple, Amritsar. The Guru established it, because he thought that secular political matters should not be considered in the Golden Temple, which is meant purely for worship of God. Here the Guru held his court and decided matters of military strategy and political policy. Later on, the Sikh commonwealth took decisions here on matters of peace and war and settled disputes between the various Sikh groups.

The Sarangi singers sung the ballads of the Sikh Gurus and warriors at this place and robes of honour were awarded to persons who rendered distinguished services of the community of men in general. The second seat of authority is called "Takhat Sri Patna Sahib". The Five Takhts are the five gurudwaras and these have a very special significance for the Sikh community. Takht means a throne. They are considered the seats of Sikh religious authority. The important decisions concerning the religious and social life of the Sikh community have been taken here.

13/12/2009 Gurudwara - The Sikh Place of Worship

Gurdwara is the name given to the Sikh place of worship, commonly addressed as Sikh temple in the western world. "Temple" is a misnomer in context of a Gurdwara and the Sikhs object to the use of this word for their place of worship. To understand the objection of the Sikhs to the word "temple", imagine how a Christian would react if St Peter's Basillica is called "a Catholic Synagogue" or a "Christian Mosque". In the Gurdwara, the Sikh scripture is recited and sung and its exegesis done. Guru Granth Sahib is placed on a high palanquin under a canopy in the middle of one end of the hall. The Gurdwara is a place where the "Word of the Guru" reigns supreme, not only in its recitation but also in practice. It won't be an overstatement to say that a Sikh's life revolves around the Gurdwara, which is why wherever there are even ten Sikh families, they establish a Gurdwara. All the ceremonies relating to birth, initiation, marriage, death and celebration of festivals centers around the Gurdwara.

12/12/2009 Sikh Religion

Sikhism is one of the youngest world religion. It is a strictly monotheistic faith, preaching the existence of only one God, and teaching universally acceptable ideals of honesty, compassion, humility, piety, social commitment, and above all tolerance for other religions.

The word 'Sikh' is derived from the Sanskrit word 'shishya' which means a disciple, a learner, a seeker of truth. A Sikh believes in One God and the teachings of the Ten Gurus, embodied in the Eternal Shabad Guru, Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji. The Basic beliefs must be followed in Sikhism. Additionally, a Sikh must also partake Amrit, the Sikh Baptism. Every sikh is supposed to follow the Sikh Code of Discipline. Sikhism was founded by Guru Nanak Dev Ji in the beginning of the sixteenth century. The succeeding nine Gurus nurtured, developed and preached his ideas and teachings. The pontificates of the nine successors of Guru nanak were only the extensions of Guru nanak's work. It is significant to note that five of the successors of Guru Nanak also composed under the name 'Nanak' implying thereby that there is no difference between the compositions of the successor and the founder.

Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the tenth Guru installed,in 1708, Guru Granth Sahib ji as his successor and the permanent Guru of the Sikhs and brought to an end to the line of human Gurus. Earlier, on Baisakhi day of 29th March,1699 The Birth of The Khalsa took place.

The Sikh Gurus provided guidance for about 240 years. They taught the basic values of freedom, brotherhood, charity, obedience, understanding, sympathy, patience, humility, simplicity, and piety, and outlined the path to spirituality in life. The Gurus themselves said that they were human beings and were not to be worshipped as God. They considered themselves to be mere servants of God.

11/12/2009 Introduction to Gurmukhi

Gurmukhi is the Sikh language of prayer in which the Guru Granth Sahib is written. The word "gurmukhi" means "guru's mouth." The second Sikh guru, Angad Dev, emphasized reading scripture daily. He developed a phonetic script, derived from a 16th century script, which could be easily learned by the common person. Guru Angad transcribed the compositions of his predecessor, Guru Nanak, into Gurmukhi.

Gurmukhi is similar to Punjabi, but differs in that it is a poetic rather spoken language. The Punjabi alphabet also has additional modern day characters which are not found in the scriptural verses of the Guru Granth Sahib.
Gurmukhi Consonants.

The Gurmukhi script alphabet has 35 main characters grouped in such a way as to form a grid. In the top row, the first three symbols are vowel holders followed by two consonants. The remaining 30 consonants are arranged in such a way so that the second through sixth rows are both horizontal and vertical as per the significance of their pronunciation. For example the last vertical row of letters all have a nasal inflection. The fourth horizontal row are all palatal and are pronounced with the tongue touching the roof of the mouth just behind the ridge in back of the teeth, while the fourth vertical row are aspirated, and pronounced with a puff of air, and so on.

10/12/2009 (Introduction To The Traditional Dress of Sikhs)

The traditional attire of Sikhs dates back centuries. Har Gobind, the sixth guru, initiated the warrior the tradition of wearing two swords which are depicted in the khanda, or Sikh crest. His grandson Har Rai, the seventh guru, wore a chola when training at arms and riding horseback. Gobind Singh, the tenth guru established the tradition of wearing kakar, five required articles of faith, for the initiated Sikh. The Sikh code of conduct specifies the wearing of a turban for all Sikh males, giving Sikh females the option of wearing a head scarf instead. The name for such traditional spiritual attire is bana.

9/12/2009 Talking About Indian Festival Dussehra

Any celebration in India has to be accompanied with food. Period. Everything else is incidental.

Take the Dussehra celebrations in Subhash Park, also known as Parade Ground, located across the road from Red Fort in Old Delhi. Venue of the biggest Ramlila, stage performances based on Ramayana depicting the life of Hindu Lord Rama, you will find food stalls galore. Most selling street food of the area. This includes chaats of all kinds, differently flavored home made ice creams, chilas, chole kulchas, tikkis, all kinds of sweets, fresh juices, lollies made from freshly crushed ice and lots more. All prepared fresh as you wait.

How much do they sell? Just one stall had fruits stacked going at least 20 feet high. Good to make 10,000 portions of fruit chaat. How long does it sell out in? One night. That’s what the vendor told me. And this is just one of the stalls. Multiply this by a modest 10 stalls, and you are looking at 100,000 portions sold in one night at one venue. Maybe not on the same scale, but you can easily say the sales volumes across the city would be 10 times of this at the 750 small and big Ramlilas taking place. Over 10 days of Navratra, the holy period for Hindus, and Dussehra. Even at an average pricing of Rs. 30 per dish, do you want to hazard the math?

All this sale picks up after 9 pm, and goes on till at least two in the morning if not longer. Cuisines are not limited to from Delhi; you can get Gujarati, Rajasthani, south Indian, Chinese and kebabs of all kinds. Vendors need to keep their nerves together with everyone jostling to place orders. No wonder they perch themselves on platforms a few feet higher than others to avoid being trampled over.

We all had to enjoy this move because this move is very interesting love story and funny comedy and today I give u information about this move.

Kambakkht Ishq explores the relationship between two individuals as different from each other as chalk and cheese. No matter how many times they are pushed together, there are only fireworks… no fire. Viraj Shergill (Akshay Kumar) is a swashbuckling stuntman in Hollywood who lives by the mantra “women are only good for two things.. making love & making love”. Simrita Rai (Kareena Kapoor) is a firebrand who is more then able to stare down the most arrogant male with her caustic wit and sardonic tongue… her firm belif “there’s no such as love”. So what happens when the two people who hate each other the most meet at Simrita’s best friend Kamini’s and Viraj’s brother Lucky’s wedding? ….a wedding that both Viraj and Simrita are voilently opposed to and desperate to stop. Sparks fly, accidents occur, And both are thrown together in the most absurd, hilarous situations until one dramatic twist of fate binds the two together in a manner that they could have never ever even dreamed of in their wildest fantasies.
